MAROCA Swimming Pool, Talisay City, Cebu.

Built in the year 1920 with modifications in the 1960s, Maroca swimming pool, named after its original owners Matilde – Roman Campo, has been a premier destination in the then town and the present city for the past century. The swimming pool follows the common convention of the time: it having several steps before entering the pool instead of being buried in the ground. At one point in time, the property had three pools available, but only one remains. However, one can still view the ruins of another pool across the current entrance. Aside from the pool, one can also rent a cottage with grilling facilities steps away.

The place invokes a sense of deep nostalgia for the many who had swimming lessons here from the 1960s until today. For many years, MAROCA pool has become famous for producing several hall of fame champions in swimming. Just recently, a local team in Talisay City who regularly trains at the pool won a national competition. There are also reports of those who drowned in this pool, but these have been unsubstantiated as of late.

According to the now defunct newspaper: Bag-ong Kusog, former president Emilio Aguinaldo stayed at the home of Local Councilor Roman Campo with the pool close-by during a visit in August 1935. There is a high chance the historical figure had a swim at the spacious pool: meaning MAROCA swimming pool possibly had one of the most significant Filipino historical figures in its waters once upon a time.
