Ancestral houses are part of the roots that bind families together. Ancestral houses are where memories and tragedies are realized and where the history of the family is realized and seen in the physical form. Ancestral houses are not only important because of their influence on the family but important in history as many ancestral houses were built long ago in a time many consider lost from memory. Conserving these houses should be a given when preserving history, the written word is strong but seeing something is more striking to a person, and seeing something get demolished and forgotten can really strike the mind. Here we see this in the demolition of the Jereza house. The house will be turned into a fishery.

The Jereza house is an old house by the sea in the poblacion, it was owned by the Jereza Family who are the owners of University Southern Philippines and the family used the house as a vacation home away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This was in the days when Talisay was the place to be if you wanted a relaxing day at the beach, many prominent Cebuano’s had beach houses in Talisay and so did the Jereza’s. beside the house there is a large swimming pool which today is empty. The shape of the house is rectangular and ending with a protrusion at the end. The front of the house has a small staircase. The house has many promenades and porches to lounge in and the door is patterned and not a solid piece of wood. The back of the house has Capiz windows. The roof is made of Asbestos. The house’ surroundings have remnants of Machucca tiles.
The house’ demolition started on October 13 and was completed on October 25 the house will be remembered as one of the houses in Talisay that once had a large pool. What is sad about this demolition is that the Barangay hall was right accross it. Very little was saved of the house like some capiz windows and some pieces of wood.
