Ancestral houses are part of the roots that bind families together. Ancestral houses are where memories and tragedies are realized and where the history of the family is realized and seen in the physical form. Ancestral houses are not only important because of their influence on the family but important in history as many ancestral houses were built long ago in a time many consider lost from memory. Conserving these houses should be a given when preserving history, the written word is strong but seeing something is more striking to a person, and seeing something get demolished and forgotten can really strike the mind.
During the Covid-19 Crisis ancestral houses in Talisay,Cebu have been demolished left and right. The government has not taken steps to preserve them and many have gone most to make commercial establishments. The example now is the Tenchavez house what is sad is that this house could very well be a candidate for the oldest house in Talisay being built in American-Period architecture from the 1920s to 1930s and the house even has stained glass windows on top of the capiz windows showing signs of the Art -deco movement prevelant of the time. The name of the family which owns the house is unclear but the most reliable source i have says its the Tenchzvez families house. The house was located in Barangay Tabunok and is now gone to make a commercial establishment. The demolition took 3 months.
