In the City of Talisay the Ancestral House of the Garces Family still stands The Garces Family is one of the Most important families in Talisay and many members of the Garces family are to a certain degree. One of the well known member of the Garces family is Vicente Hermosa Garces otherwise known as Nyor Inting a famed writer of Poems and novels.

He was born in 1877 and served as mayor of Talisay between 1925-1937, aside from his post as Mayor Vicente Garces was a Poet and many of his works were published in the Cebuano newspaper “Bag-Ong Kusog” there are two ancestral houses bearing the name of the Garces House one on the Street Bearing the name of Vicente H. Garces which sadly has been destroyed to make way for a restaurant. Vicente H. Garces had 13 Pilar Mariano Alfreda Agapito Sincletica Asteria Jesusa Virginio Clarita Resureccion Teodora Vicente Jose, none are still alive. His wife was Ressurecion Bangoy. One of his Children Asteria died on Corregidor Island during the Second World War. The Diaspora of the Family would reach far and wide. The house unfortunately has started to feel the aching of age and some parts have started to collapse.

This is the only remaining Garces house. The house is made of wood and Concrete, interestingly the house has a rather tall Tower of four floors. Each floor has its own floor with old Furniture inside from paintings, Vienna Chairs and Tables. According to a local the construction of the house started in 1952 and ended in 1955. Many old images and documents can be found inside though it is not open to the public. The house is one of the most important ancestral houses in Talisay, not only because of its association with the Famed writer Vicente Garces, but also because it is one of the last ancestral houses in Talisay to have Art Deco as its main design principle. The house is beautifully designed with stained glass windows and Pineapple concrete designs. It is important that this house be saved as it could be the last Italianate house in Talisay.

  1. is there something that can be done to these decaying houses? because as the houses decay, so does the rich history/herstory that these houses tell. if well-preserved, these houses as well as their precious stories can help correct if not destroy all the evils that revisionisms or revisionists of the fake-newsmakers today perpetuate. thanks again, deez, for breathing life into ou past. it is when we go back into the past that we know how to live our present as well as our future.

so how much does the house cost now? any idea???

    1. Without government support and community desire to restore them there is currently nothing that can be done… The house probably costs somewhere between 10 and 15 million pesos in the current market.

      1. thanks for replying. appreciate it much. 10 to 15 million pesos may not be too astronomical for someone like you. maybe you can buy the house yourself, what with your magic lamp and the genie herself who is your mom!!!

  2. Is there any more information about the Garces ancestry you could share? I’m interested in piecing together how my Garces family connects to VH Garces

  3. Love to hear from distant relatives. Is the house just abandoned or in ownership of someone? I wonder how much the cost to buy the property as is & would it have land title?

    1. Hi Liza, the house isn’t just abandoned. The heirs of the late Don V.H. Garces appointed caretakers to oversee the surroundings. The house and the lot has both land titles still in the name of the original owners, e.g. Vicente Garces and Resurrecion Bangoy. The Garces heirs are opened to sell the property on condition that the house would be preserved and maintained to reflect the legacy of the original owners, thru a cultural heritage program of sorts. In fact the property is already registered as a TALAPAMANA under the Philippine government’s Philippine Registry of Cultural Property (PRECUP). You may view pictures both the exterior and interior parts of the heritage house by using Google Maps.

      1. Hi Mam Liza Garces & Garces,
        and to All,

It’s great to hear or read the History of the Original Family Garces here in the Philippines, as a Garces I am very proud because the Garces are included in the History of the Philippines. I have been hearing the name Vicente Garces from my Grandparents for a long time and they always say that it is the origin of the Garces Race in the Philippines. Since I was young, I loved to ask about the Ancestors of the Garces Family. Now I can say that the Garces are a big part of the Philippines that the Garces should also appreciate, and know their origin as a person in this World. Many thanks to all the Garces who love to research our race.

        I love you all♥️
        Salute♥️😊😍
