Talisay Landing Monument WW2

During World War II, Talisay Point, located most likely in either Larawan Beach or Consojong Point, was the site of the Talisay Landing for both the Japanese invasion and the American liberation of Cebu. Larawan Beach now features a monument dedicated to this historic event, which may have taken place in this very area. Every year, a reenactment of the landing is held here to commemorate the bravery of those involved.

The Talisay Landing Monument was constructed around 2009, but the original statues of the soldiers were heavily criticized for looking like plastic toys. In 2011, these statues were replaced with the ones seen today, each costing around ₱150,000. The monument faces the island of Bohol and depicts General Douglas MacArthur’s famous landing at Leyte, along with six other soldiers. (It is worth noting that MacArthur himself did not actually land in Cebu during this event.)

Behind the monument is a small seaside park, maintained though not very well, offering visitors a peaceful spot to reflect on the region’s wartime history. Despite the modest upkeep, the area remains an important historical landmark for locals and tourists alike, reminding everyone of Cebu’s strategic role during the Second World War.

Interestingly, historical records indicate that the actual landing sites for both the Japanese and American forces were about two kilometers west, in the barangays of Cansojong and Tangke. This discrepancy can be explained by the fact that, in 1945, the entire coastal area was collectively referred to as Talisay Point.

Today, the monument stands not only as a reminder of the past but also as a symbol of resilience and remembrance, marking a pivotal chapter in Cebu’s wartime history.

This area is not very popular in Cebu most go to Museo Sugbo which has much WW2 Memorabilia or To Fort San Pedro a Spanish triangular fort in the heart of the city. This place is under maintained with trash and general uncleanliness all around. Like most underrated and unknown places in Cebu this place has no tourists and on most days has no people. though dirty it is a great place to cool off by the sea. The area is currently being developed by the local LGU to renovate and clean area.
